Lenovo has Legion Y720 Gaming laptop (80VR002GUS) with 15.6" 1080P IPS panel, Core i7-7700HQ 2.8 GHz Quad Core CPU, 8GB DDR4L 2400 MHz Ram, GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Graphics, 1TB 5400 RPM HDD, RGB Backlit Keyboard, Type-C Port /w Thunderbolt 3, Full RGB Backlit Keyboard @ $909.53 with coupon code LEGIONXTRA7. This one, even without SSD, is a better choice than Legion Y520 deal posted earlier. The configuration may look similar but Y720 has better build quality, higher capacity battery, Full RGB Backlit Keyboard, 6GB version of GTX 1060 and most importantly Thunderbolt 3 which is almost rare at sub $1000 laptops.

SPEC:
  • Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
  • 15.6" 1080P IPS Anti-Glare Display
  • Kaby Lake Core i7-7700HQ 2.8 GHz
  • 8GB DDR4L 2400 MHz Ram
  • 1TB 5400 RPM HDD + M.2 PCIe NVMe 2280 Drive
  • GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Graphics
  • 2x 2W JBL Speaker + 3W Subwoofer Dolby Atmos
  • 720P HD Webcam
  • Full color RGB Backlit Keyboard
  • Xbox Integration with WiFi Controller (controller not included)
  • Dual Band 802.11ac WiFi (2x2) + Bluetooth 4.1 + Gigabit Ethernet
  • PORTS:
    • 3x USB 3.0
    • 1x HDMI
    • 1x USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 /w Thunderbolt 3
    • 1x Display Port
  • 4 Cell 60 WHr Li-Ion Battery ( up to 5 hrs)
  • 7.05 lbs / 3.2 kg

Pay another $200 and buy one with 16GB ram or spend around $60 to get another 8GB DDR4L 2400 MHz module to update this. Don't complain without understanding anything.

If you are student/military/teacher and verify with ID.me you get $146.70 off instead of $68 off. My total is $831.29. Took me 30 seconds to verify enrollment in school.

You may need to call to finish the order but it looks like the student discount is the way to go if you can qualify.

Sound quality is pretty damn good, IMO, as far as laptop speakers go. No built-in system will ever have enough bass, but it's loud as hell and holds quality. I used to be a drummer though, so my ears aren't the absolute best judge these days lol

As far as the screen goes, I'm probably not the best judge, but I'll say this; I typically use it in a dim room (two bedside lamps w/Hue bulbs), and I prefer to keep the brightness down a notch or two unless I'm gaming.

As a suggestion note, the built in software had a cool feature for basically blasting the fan speed up on demand. I've got zero concerns about this thing overheating. The fans (when in Extreme Cooling mode) are fairly loud, but extremely effective. They blast out the back, too, not the bottom.

The materials used in the case are a fingering magnet. Speaking of the case, it feels sturdy as hell, and I can pick the whole thing up from a corner, one-handed. The screen hinge is perfectly tight too. Keyboard backlight is really nice, and customisable. 4 color zones, and options for built-in patterns.

Battery life, anecdotally speaking, is about 4 to 4.5 hours (not gaming) with almost every power saving feature disabled.

edit: biggest downside is how painfully slow the secondary mechanical hard drive is in comparison to the SSD. It's *rough*.

oh, and the SSD is the default OS drive out of the box. I can't get ever the fact that a full reboot take me seconds, not minutes. it's beautiful.

This is a great deal in my opinion. You can easily buy a 256GB M.2 SATA III SSD around $80 bucks and still be within $1000 for a laptop with i707700HQ and TB 3 port.

not bad for the specs. Seems 1060gtx laptops around $900 are rare these days, especially with thunderbolt (if it's the x4 pcie flavor)

however, reviews say the IPS screen is on the inferior side with lower color gamut.

Running CPU intensive software, Video Editing and encoding, Rendering etc. One thing you should be aware of is that like all gaming laptops, the Display is not going to be a color accurate one. So if you are planning to do serious Photoshop or Video editing, it will be better to hook it to an external Monitor designed for that. Dell Ultrasharp lineup is a good choice.

Glad to be on your help. Actually this model normally starts at $1000 with an i5-7300HQ. Today even I was surprise to see this price and posted instantly. Hurry because not sure how much this is going to stay at this price.
