Summary for people that may not understand the whole process:

Let's get the why out of the way first:

Companion Pass (CP) from Southwest (SW) is given when you accrue 110,000 points in the same calendar year. ALL of them need to be accrued in the same calendar year. This is also based on one Rapid Rewards (RR) account, no sharing.

Once the points are accrued the CP is valid for the calendar year which the points were accrued, plus the following calendar year. Most of the thread, all talk about statement dates, posting dates, due dates, 90 day spend, 115 day spend, etc. have to do with trying to maximize the CP so that you get it for the 2018 and 2019 calendar years. This is achieved by making sure that all 110,000 SW points are accrued in 2018.

Hopefully that is now clear, so the next issue is how do I get 110,000 points to accrue in 2018 with this offer?

The current promotion is 60,000 points per credit card (CC) if you spend a total of $2k in the first three months from approval. So if you get two of them, that equals 120,000 points. The offer stipulates that ALL points post on the statement AFTER you meet the $2k spend. Thus you need to time the spend so that the points post in January, thus giving you a CP for the rest of 2018 and 2019 as explained above.

The safest, least cumbersome way to achieve all this, is to get two cards in January and not worry about anything. Only problem is that this is a limited time offer, and per many sources it is slated to end on 10/1 or 10/4, but let's say 10/1 to be safe. Thus, you need to worry about when to complete the $2k spend because you have to get both cards before 10/1.

If you are confused because some comments mention 90 days and some 115 days to meet the spend, that is because "officially" the offer stipulates you have 90 days, however, it is the experience of most people that the actual spend window is 115 days. This has been proven many times, when people use secure message (SM) to Chase after they receive the cards, and the date they are given has been 115 days from the approval date.

What all of this means is that you need to make sure your $2k spend is completed (not all needs to be done at once) AFTER your December statement date, but BEFORE your spend deadline date. The statement date is given to you after you get approved, and it seems it is random. By the way, they actually give you a due date, the statement date is 3 days after that.

As of today using the 115 day window that gives you ~January 5 to complete your $2k spend. All you have to worry about is not completing it earlier than the December statement date. Well let's say you are "unlucky" and your statement date is on the 26th. That doesn't give you much time to complete the spend, plus it is not when you spend it, but when the merchant posts it on your CC. However, luckily for you, Chase allows you to change your due date (remember due date + 3, is the statement date), so all you have to do is change it to early December. Thus it gives you from the statement date all the way to January 5 to complete the $2k spend.

Now if you think the world is always against you and you only believe in the 90 day spend window, you can still do it with an early December statement date and a spend due date of December 12. The longer you wait to apply the longer the spend window, but make sure you apply prior to 10/1.

Here is the TL;DR example:

Apply today for two of the CC. (make sure you have RR account before)
Get approved: wohoo!
SM (do not call) Chase and ask about last day to complete spend. (should be early January)
Check your due date. If early/mid month do nothing. If late month, change it to early/mid month.
Spend ~$1800 (DO NOT spend close or more than $2000) on EACH CC between now and your due date in December.
Spend enough to go over $2000 total for EACH CC after your statement date but prior to the January date given to you earlier.

Profit! CP and 120k+ points to use for the next two years!

Sorry for the long post, but hopefully this helps people who are still lost.

That is correct. To be more specific, the 60k sign up bonuses need to both post to your SWA account in 2018 in order to get the companion pass - you can use the cards this year, but make sure that 1) you get the cards late enough so that the time you are given to make the $2k-$3k spend extends into 2018, and 2) you do not hit $2k of spending on either individual card until January 2018.

Your best approach - at least what I am planning on doing assuming the promo lasts long enough - is to apply for both cards in late September or early October (apparently Chase gives some leeway in the 90 days to hit the bonus spend), put some spend on each card over the rest of 2017, but not enough to trigger the bonus, say $1500-$1750 on each card. And then in the first week of January, spend whatever you need to put each card over the $2k threshold to trigger the 60k miles.

Southwest gives you a companion pass if you get over 110,000 points within a calendar year. The bonuses provided by these cards count towards that goal. therefore if you get 2 of these cards and get the bonus within 1 calendar year, you automatically get companion pass.

Companion pass gives you the ability to add a companion (that you have set in southwest's system) to any flight that you fly (only pay the additional 11.20 fee for round trip). You can change your companion up to 3 times in a calendar year and can change it right before you book a trip/add a companion to your trip.

Companion pass lasts for the remainder of the current year and for the following year. That is why many people are saying to way so that your account posts the total balance in January. You get the points when you get your statement.

Hope that helps

source: i've had companion pass for the last 6 years through this

Correct. You have to play the closing date game and not start too early or you lose a year. I played it 2 years ago (still have companion pass)and may be under the 5/24 rule. So who knows.

Question: Has the premier business always been 3k/3months? or was it 2k/3months last time this rolled around?

When I checked my report just now it says I have 13 credit inquiries. Most are from a home purchase about 5 months ago but they're not showing up as a mortgage inquiry. How do I fix that?

Thank you for your request.
We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.
Thank you for choosing Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card from Chase.

I have definitely requested 5 credit cards in last 24 months but I took a chance, if I call them, what are my chances of getting it approved? any hint on what should I tell them? any dedicated chase helpline for this? Do not want to wait for 30 days to find out via mail that I was not approved Smilie

Update: Just called and confirmed, Not approved Frown but expected due to 5/24.

I was not logged in my chase account. I have 800+ score and have applied for only one chase card in the last 18 months.

"We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.

May be I should have Smilie.

Did anyone get instant approval?
