Widely considered one of the better anime series out there, and a pioneer that expanded the genre.

8.9 on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0213338/

In 2008 2005, the series was re-released in the same 6 volume DVD format, however, this time claiming to be "remastered" and brandishing the "Remix" tag, however, amongst their "remastering," there were a lot of completely ridiculous and unnecessary modifications. Unfortunately, this "Remix" release was also used to create the 2008 "Anime Legends" set as well as the Blu-ray edition released in 2014. Differences between original release and the "Remix" set include but are not limited to:

• Removal of entire scenes, albeit mostly scenery. (Prime example: The beginning of Session 5 has 30 seconds of footage completely cut.)

• The entire series has went through a brightening filter, washing out colors.

• Sound effects have been completely changed in various places, not enhanced. (Example: The gunshot at the end of Session 1 doesn't even sound like a gunshot anymore, and it seems like the sound effect gets cut off before it even finishes. Ambience has also been completely removed from space scenes.)

• Songs have been replaced in certain places. (Example: The next episode preview at the end of Episode 25 now has upbeat music that was used in Jupiter Jazz Part I's eyecatch on repeat rather than the depressing "Farewell Blues" that actually fits the dialogue and mood.)

• Some songs start/stop at different times, while complete portions of some songs have been removed from scenes (most notably "Blue" from the final episode, as the choir ends and the doves fly by).

Surprised this doesn't have more TU, while Samurai Champloo has hit the front page.

Every time the blu ray version of CB goes on sale, there's a mention that parts have been changed compared to the DVD and TV version and not for the better. I can't ever remember what the issues were.

YMMV but I just called BestBuy for a price match to Amazon and when they looked it up they told me they were showing $16.99 and did it for that price. Just in case anyone else wanted to try I figured I would post it here.

They might be getting the DVD version link instead of the Bluray - but if they're getting mixed up it's not really your fault.

What's the point of bluray then! Thanks and loved the series.

I don't think the changes on the Blu-ray are a problem. Here's why.
Cowboy Bebop is my all time favorite anime. I've loved it consistently for over 14 years. I own the pre-remix DVD release people are mentioning. I got it when it was new.
I just finished watching the Blu-ray release, and I never noticed any changes (I didn't know it was different). I'm sure if I did an A to B comparison, I'd find something, but I didn't notice during watching alone. So I'd say the changes aren't that noticeable. I hadn't watched it in a year or two when I watched the bluray, but I've watched the series more times in my life than anything else, by far. Overall, I really enjoyed the HD remaster, and thought the sound quality was pretty fantastic on my surround sound system. Of course, I didn't have Surround 14 years ago. As a die-hard Cowboy Bebop fan, I totally recommend this release. Especially at $22!!!

This is a great deal but if anyone doesn't know (as I didn't until very recently) this series is on Hulu (paid subscription).

Does anyone if the Hulu episodes are modified from the original?

If I had to take a guess, it's the "remix version"
My understanding is that the Perfect Sessions versions are actually no longer available as they were only released as a boxed set for a very limited time. Everything released afterwards have been remix versions.
