I am looking for some Tumi carry ons and found that Nordstrom Rack has them up to 40% Off. Shipping is free with $100+. Looks like a decent deal and want to share.

FYI- most of the Nordstrom rack stuff is specifically made for outlets and of much lower quality than Tumi's retail stuff.

My wife and I travel about 250k miles a year (all domestic) and we love Tumi gear but I'd never spend a dime on these outlet items. They're on par with Samsonite but still 3x the price.

So what do you suggest for luggage at a reasonable price? I'm changing jobs to one with way more travel and need to pick up a good carry on.

Have you had any experience with there hardside checked luggage? I don't know how long until they break after being thrown.

I have the same question. Going to be doing lots more traveling. I found myself watching the brands on the baggage carousel yesterday after a flight trying to figure out what looked best, lol

Not to offend. But, if you're buying this STUFF on ebay, it's like buying a Bentley on ebay.

Samsonite owns Tumi so I would say that's accurate for their whole line.

Agree that this stuff in Nordstrom Rack is the Tumi outlet luggage, not the real premium Tumi luggage. Here's the rule of thumb: any piece of Tumi luggage without the monogram square is outlet quality, any piece of luggage with monogram square is the original quality

To those of you that asked about which luggage to buy, it's kind of like underwear...everyone has their own preferences.

I use a tumi Alpha 2 international office carry-on and my wife uses a Tumi Alpha 2 front lid international. I got mine for 30% off and paid around $550.

Prior to our Tumi bags we had the Samsonite Sphere hardside carry-on which can usually be had for around $120. Those bags were great and my family members liked them so much they also bought them. Hard sides are also great for storing because you only need to wipe them down with a wet cloth.

TravelPro is another brand that's highly recommended and used by many pilots/flight attendants which says something.

Also as someone else mentioned, Tumi was acquired by Samsonite a few years back. That acquisition may have affected you if you had a 20 year old tumi bag with a lifetime warranty but otherwise I haven't noticed a difference.

Tumi Alpha 2 is by far their staple for business travelers. Their Alpha Bravo collection is still very good.

I'd avoid anything from their outlets, their Tahoe collection underwhelmed me, and I found their other collections that primarily cater to women were either poor quality or ridiculously heavy (my wife agreed).

Edit: as far as Tumi discounts they have semi annual sales usually at 20% off. Their Alpha Bravo collection changes each year and can usually be had for 30% off or more (if you wait). These pieces will often show up in their outlets but you have to know what to look for.

This explains why I notice stuff on here that even Tumi website does not have. This includes this :
https://www.nordstromrack.com/eve...lor=ORANGE

which opens at the lid, instead of in the middle like a clam. I hate clam opening luggages like hard luggages and thought this was the only way to get Tumi quality without the clam opening, but if it's outlet quality stuff then i will pass.

I think the same could be made about Travelpro stuff found at discount places like Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I have gone through so many after just 1 or 2 uses. Now, I will only get the Travelpro Crew or Magna series.

Good point but I would rather pay a little more and have the Nordstrom customer support vs eBay
