Edit. Found it cheaper at Mountain steals [mountainsteals.com]and in multiple colors including black and green.
Hoodoo Red is $69.29 ($77)
Black is $75.59 ($84)
Nitro Green is $71.09 ($79)

Coupon code GETCAMPING5 takes off 10% and apparently gives free shipping.

They also have the Osprey 65 [mountainsteals.com] for 97, so $87.30 after coupon for all colors.
----------------------

Doesn't start till 8/25. REI will have 20% off one garage item. They have the Osprey 46l Porter in Hoodoo Red [rei.com] for $96.73 which comes down to $76.98 after coupon code XTRA20.

I'm still looking to replace my aging and torn Kelty Redwing 50. Have actually gone back to my older Redwing 50 which funny enough still has no rips or tears. The washing machine has cracked all the rubber. But otherwise it's still good.. Just no side pockets for water and the layout is old. The new Redwing 50 is too tall, and would most likely get me gigged as a carryon.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Would this fit as a "personal item", not a "carry on"? Meaning, personal item, stick it under seat, while the carry on goes up top in bin?

I don't see why it wouldn't, as long as you didn't pack it completely full.

I just bought this and it would be a tight squeeze to fit under the seat. You might be able to squeeze it down enough with the compression straps but you would have to make sure it was less than 1/2 way filled. It will fit in the over head compartment easily.

46 to 50l packs tend to push the limit of "personal" items. Compression and leaving some room is a must. Also height matters and bigger packs with plastic or metal frames might not fit well either. I've used my 50L redwing under the seat, and it's stuck out a little, but I haven't caught flack. It's usually angled inward and my legs hide it.

I think Spirit Airlines would LIKELY have a problem with this bag as a "personal item."

You could take this as "carry on" but there's a chance you would pay a fee. (One of the tags on this bag says, "carry-on friendly."

In my opinion, there's no way this bag's going under your seat. Too big.

FYI this is the 2016 model . The 2017 red color is called "Diablo Red". All the Osprey Porter 46 2017 models are $98 @ Ebags

Is this one better than the Kelty Redwing 50L? I just purchased the Redwing 50L last week for $84.

It's a different bag. I use my redwing as a daily driver for the gym and overnight. I make use of the various compartments for toiletries, tech, gym stuff and so on. I've checked out the ospreys, and they seem to have less external compartments as well as no water bottle pockets. So it really depends on your usage.

Also the newest 50l redwing is taller and slightly narrower than previous versions. My new redwing is sitting collecting dust, and zillion need to sell it as I bought it for around what you did. Realized it was taller than both of my older ones, and I don't really want an every day bag to be that big. Hardee to stuff under the seat on a plane too.

The point is that for only $20 more you can have the latest with any upgrades that might bring if any.
