Actually these Moto modems are bulletproof ... I have brought 2 SB6141 both used .... both never needed a reboot even since they were put into use. Yes I have had a couple power outage and they just went back to work after power is back ... like that Duracell bunny just keep going. The only thing that will fail eventually is that power supply long before I would worry about the moto. But it can be replaced easily.
I would not hesitate to get a SB6183 used/refurb for less ... just saw some for less than $40 on ebay.

Get the white version for $5 more. The black one is issued for ISP's only while the white version is a true Motorola with 2 year warranty unlike the black that doesn't have any with a newer firmware which is good if your ISP doesn't push the same or higher version than what this does.

This was my best pure modem besides the expensive 3.1 that my ISP approved and has been solid for the past 3 days.

Would you feel the same about an SB6190 for around $66 (used on Amazon Warehouse Deals)? We don't need anything partiuclarly fancy...just the normal teenage infested household with four laptops, 2 Ipads, 2 Kindle Fire's, 6 cell phones, Roku, XBox, not usually all running at the same time, but usually at least 5-6 devices on at any one time.

I have been trying to read up on these....the 6190's seem to have a bad chipset (puma?). I don't know if a firmware update has fixed that or not. I'm not sure now which is the best model to get.

The more reading I'm doing on this, the more I'm seeing the stay away from the 6190. It seems the 6183 and 6141, as well as the Netgear CM500 and 600 are solid models. Not sure where to pull the trigger on either. It's been so long since I shopped for modems. We finally dumped cable and phone and can now dump the cable company's $15/month gateway. But now I'm not sure what to replace it with.

Sorry no idea about the SB6190 but it would be a bummer if Moto came out with a bad one ... hope they fix it soon. I do wish I have a Gigabit ISP connection.
But I would still recommend either SB6183 or SB6141 without hesitation. If I were you I would just grab a SB6183 from Ebay ... saw one for $38 refurb earlier.

And I have more devices than you have and the 6141 is chucking along just fine. That thing is really bulletproof.

Thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger on a 6183 with damaged packaging on an Amazon Warehouse deal for $43.49. I thought about waiting around for the Nighthawk deal to come up again, but I negotiated a fair deal with WOW for 110MBps on our existing account, so I want to be able to use the speed and not wait around with our several years old modem (resurrected from the basement box of cords for the interim period) barely handling our traffic.

I read up somewhere that Comcast made the 6141 obsolete. Is that correct? Was looking for a deal through Labor Day weekend for a cable modem and router now that I recently switched to Xfinity.

according to their site, it's still an approved device.

I'm still running an sb6121. I haven't bought a new modem in years... looks like I may want to get a new one since I just boosted up my speed.

Is there any difference between the white version of this module compared to this one?

Wish I would have gotten one on a better deal but my thinking is that it'll start to pay for itself only after 6 months. Will be glad to remove the $9 monthly lease off of my monthly bill. Thanks OP!
