Even after trying to follow the steps in the other post, I am not able to replicate this deal with a valid edu address. The link to the student store in the other post is broken, but I found another link to sign up. Still no deal.

Will this fit into and make my old 5200rpm SATA HDD laptop really fast (at least in boot up, opening programs and file transfers)?

Depends on the model of laptop, you can look up how to swap the hard drive of your laptop model on Google, you may need to use a little metal rack to screw the drive into, which you then screw into the bay
