They just havent manufactured huge volumes of these phones, that is why the price doesnt go down significantly. Galaxy S8 is much more superior to this in every aspect and I got it new for $425. Even $575 current retail price is worth it more than paying $450 for Pixel XL.

This is a premium device with unlimited full resolution photo/video storage through Google Photos. You are paying for one of the best smartphone cameras on the market and unmolested Android OS.

It is a good deal compared to the average selling price on eBay, but obviously if you run into any potential problems with the device past the return period - YMMV on getting any sort of warranty service. The new Pixel will basically be double the price.

Cheaper than used swappa listings. These may still be covered under google's warranty since they haven't been out for a year yet. New pixel is going to cost way more than this and I'm sure google will support this for at least another full year (I think that's the current software update situation.) It's definitely not a cheap phone but from all the reviews I've read it's one of the best androids available, I've seen mixed reports about the battery life though.

Especially an HTC made phone that is missing key features such as quick charge, wireless charge, and water resistance.

Slow your roll. S8 is not superior in every way. May I mention bixby, and the horrible OS overlay and the bloatware you can't remove?

Pixel has some things missing, but it's the smoothest software I've ever used on a phone, and absolutely zero hassle.

Oh, and one pixel phone works on ALL networks. Galaxy locks you into att or Verizon, no switching without a new phone.

Not really.

So you're basically paying to give your pictures to google...

One of the best, but not the best.
You're buying a smartphone, not a camera.
The camera isn't any better than on my Nexus 5X that I bought new for $250... years ago.

WOW... what a deal!

Are you a Millennial?
Is the camera similar to the Nexus 5X?

Not really, Pixel has very good HDR and low light performance but the S8 resolves more detail.

See for yourself here: http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.ph...hone3=8065

Personally, I would pick the S8 over the Pixel at $400 - but Samsung software can be a real dog in performance at times.

Are you looking someone to wear your hat together with?

It is one of the primary use cases for a smartphone, a portable camera. By your logic, no one need anything better than a mid-range device and should carry around a separate camera for high quality pictures.
No cell phone on the market today produces a photo quality of even a mid-range point and shoot camera in anything other than very ideal conditions. If you want high quality pictures, you have to use a separate camera anyway.

The 5X has terrible battery life, terrible sustained performance (Snapdragon 808 heat) and LG boot loop lottery.
No it doesn't. Wrong on all the assertions.

The low light performance of the Pixel is significantly better: http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.ph...hone3=8065

Not in those photos. The Pixel's software is using more aggressive sharpening and noise reduction. You need to use the same software version on both to compare since the software gets updated as the time goes on.

It is a good deal if you are in the market for the Pixel specifically, not an amazing deal compared to more recent devices.
If you want a refurbished pixel and you want it now, you're not looking for a deal...

Buy an unlocked S8 and it will work with all operators.

And I forgot to mention that this is a refurb phone...

Best camera on any phone released in the past year. Battery is just alright though.

The s8 is dual SIM, NOT dual antenna. You can have 2 SIM cards, but cannot flip networks on the fly.

Honestly, this is one of the best features as, with Google fi, I get three network coverage on the fly. Better coverage than Verizon or att individually.

And referb for this price that still has top of the line specs a year old isn't bad.
