I have the motion 4 set hooked up to my computer and I love the sound that comes off of them. I wish I could justify buying a full electrostatic set but I currently cannot.

The sound seems very clean to me but if you are a bass head then you'll definitely need a woofer

I have a system with Motion 12 fronts, Motion C center, and 4 Motion 4s in surround and surround back. Absolutely wonderful for music and movies, and this is the cheapest I've seen these. As others have said, you'll need a sub to go with these.

So digging deeper, the frequency range is bit of meh compared to Promonitor 800 which are incidentally cheaper and have a better range. Also the Center is ok, if you want mountable go with ProCenter 2000 refurbished from eBay from Def Tech refurbished arm userid bajawaverunner.

To clarify - you can't determine which speaker is better / right for you by simply looking at specifics. Needless to say, everyone has their own preference, such as more bass or better vocals.

More importantly, the MartinLogan has a sealed enclosure for super tight and crisp sound in contrast to the Def Tech's, which use a port to provide more bass. The bass (i.e. the range is bigger), but the result is less crisp and accurate speed.

Think of it like this, when you pull up to a stop light and the car next to you is blasting their base. Sometimes a car has a lot of bass and it sounds really good and you're impressed - that's a sealed enclosure (they're more expensive). Most times, there is a ton of bass but it sounds like @$$ and it seems as though their car is about to fall apart from the shaking... that's a ported enclosure - more bass but less tight/accurate.

I always advocate listening to a speaker whenever possible. That said, I've never had a pair of Martin Logan's I didn't love.

Nice anology. Not entirely accurate but as a blanket statement it is slightly true especially with low end car audio.

but the motion 4 are ported... and the def techs are actually technically a sealed passive radiator design

Motion 4s are really nice detailed speakers. The dead opposite of muddy - clear and precise sound. You need a sub for sure.

Unfortunately they show sold out.

I bought motion 4s from Newegg in 2011 for $150. They have been great and$125 is the best price I've seen for them.

I have motion 4 speakers on an old Technics receiver. Music sounds great. Bass is there and hits very clean. I'll try something like bass nectar and let you guys know.

Bass is super tight. You can crank them up loud, but you not going to shake when the beat drops.
