Microcenter is currently offering $100 off (Usually this deal is $30 off) when you buy this processor with a compatible motherboard. This is $50 less than the best deal I've seen on this. In store pick up only.

This deal has been around for a couple weeks. If you can find an open box MB with a rebate + 100 off - you can get some great deals.

nice price. But next generation i7 would be a better choice unless you need multi channel rams

Yeah there was one that was about $100 with a $50 rebate, very tempting but this thing would be an huge overkill for my use

That sucks, most of the ones near me are open-box. Seems like they're phasing them out for the new platform.

They did honor the discount with an open box motherboard for me (Paterson NJ). The motherboard was 99.99 which they marked down to 1 cent. My total was 362.25 w/tax. The lady worked on the system for 10 minutes and just applied the discount when I told her it was 100 off online.

Assuming you're talking about the similarly spec'd/priced 7800X

i7-7800X ($350) + Cheapest LGA 2066 MB ($240) = $590
i7-6850K ($350) + Gigabyte GA-X99-UD3P ($114) - $50 MIR - $100 discount = $314

Performance is pretty identical looking at userbenchmark.com. [userbenchmark.com]

So you're paying a lot more (nearly 2x) for marginally better performance and "better future-proofing." Keep in mind that the older X58 platform (10 years old) paired with an X5650 OC can still handle pretty much any workload you can throw at it today. So I think the i7-6850k/X99 isn't becoming obsolete anytime soon.

Also once the price of 2011 processors drop like the X58 platform did, your used LGA 2011-3 motherboard will likely go UP in value due to their rarity. Check out X58 motherboards on eBay to see what I'm saying.

Yep its the motherboards that kill you in HEDT. The chips are actually decently priced (6800k was 350 at launch), but for some reason adding an 'X' in front of the motherboard means +250 dollars.

He's talking about the gen 8 intel i7 with 6 cores and 12 threads. Supposedly releasing in October.

In-Store pickup only. I can buy the 7700K + ASUS ROG Strix Z270I Gaming for <$10 more on Amazon. Not worth the drive.

I have an x58 (Rog Rampage ii Extreme) paired with a old i7 920. Debating on upgrading to this combo or do you think I should just upgrade my CPU? Like the 965 for $100 used or 990X for like $260 used? Right now I see at my microcenter I can get an open box Gigabyte X99 Ultra gaming open box for $155 - $100 combo -$50 rebate. So basically just paying for the 6850k chip at $355ish.

Right now my system has an upgraded vid card of 1070 but don't really see a gain in performance on games I play.

Personally I bought, 1.5 years ago, an i7 5820 for $330 which was an amazing price at the time. The 2011-3 processors are amazing and this deal is VERY attractive. Thanks OP! I am looking for a 6900X or 6950X for cheap, but I don't know if I will ever see them come down in the price range I am willing to spend. These 6800 Broadwell-Es are amazing and out perform the older Haswells by a smig. Big thumbs up!
