They're always expensive around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This isn't slick. It's a sandpaper deal. Poor date availability, $100 off is nothing to sneeze at, but this is still an overpriced destination due primarily to airfares.

Supposedly next year when Alaska Air starts flying there with new planes, prices will drop. Might be best to wait until then.

Tried to look up information on this but could not find anything. I have a wedding to attend in Maui next year March 2018 (spring break pricing =/ ). When will Alaska Air start flying there?

It looks like they already fly to Hawaii. I assume you mean they'll be using the new more fuel efficient Boeing 787s and thus ticket prices will be cheaper as a result (?).

What would you consider to be a good deal for roundtrip flights to hawaii from Los Angeles, CA? Under $400?

Alaska Airlines flies directly to Honolulu from Alaska and its usually $500-700 round trip for us. I would LOVE to see something in the $400 range. The distance the plane travels is almost identical in miles to anywhere else on the west coast. I've seen deals from West Coast and Texas this year that were in the $300-350 range though.

I mean I have paid $400 and $425 twice for RT from San diego to OGG.

I also found flights for my sister at $380ish.

This was all in the last two years.

There really is no reason why SJ/SF are more expensive than LAX,SEA or SD.

This isn't really that good of a deal. It's not bad from the cheaper cities but I can't say the same for some of those near the bottom. Hawaii is always more expensive for the same duration of flight than say cross country but the San Diego and LA flights are definitely more. I suspect you can find cheaper flights on other airlines using Google Flights. The hot meal is nice I guess but just pack some snacks and you'll eat better.
