The trick is to buy the executive membership, get the $20 gift card, and downgrade to the gold star membership.

If you are really that hard of cash you really shouldn't get a Costco membership. I understand SD is about saving $$ ... but seriously you gotta draw a line sometimes.

How the heck is this a repost? Your link is a deal that expired in May and that was a different price also. Read first before writting repost. This is not a repost.

Actually when I went in to get my gold membership with Groupon, the clerk told me outright that I should do that.

Groupon deal was much better.

For $60, we got gold membership + $20 cash card + free coupons.

While signing up they offered an extra $20 cash card if we upgraded to executive membership ($60 extra)

And if we opened a new Costco citi card, they offered another $20 extra cash card. We were already planning to do both, so not a bad deal.

Costco service providers were rude and unprofessional so never renewed
They are rude but think with your wallet

Gas is the cheapest at Costco at least in my town...I fill a tank of gas every other day( yes I drive that much) What I save on gas alone makes for membership

Downgrade if you want to, but if you think you'll do a lot of shopping at Costco, keep the executive. We never buy big items, but do buy the majority of our groceries at Costco, and get a rebate check for pretty much the cost of membership every year... This year it was $118 and change. If I recall correctly from when we signed up, the minimum rebate check you will get each year is for the difference between a Gold and Executive membership... So why a Costco employee would advise you to downgrade is beyond me.
