Looks a little nicer in my opinion. I doubt most people will hear any significant differences.

It's a USB DAC. Plug it into USB on your computer and plug the RCA out into an amplifier. Plug speakers or headphones into the amplifier.

Making sure I'm understanding this product.....DAC....Digital Audio Converter.
Takes the .mp3, .flac. .wav or whatever sound file type one has then processes and enhances the sound file.
This goes from one's computer to this DAC unit, then to a stereo amplifier. This is for home stereo not 12V car stereo. One probably has to have higher end audio equipment especially speakers to take advantage of the enhancements.
Am I correct on this? If I am correct on this, then this is a good dealio. But, am I correct on guessing as technology changes, these become behind on the technology pretty quick?

It converts digital to analog. It does not "enhance" the files though. This is designed to be objective so to try to provide the truest translation of the file between digital to analog. Your computer has a DAC built in already, but this has the advantage of being external (less potential for interference) and letting you feed a line level output to an external amp.

If you don't have an amplifier already or arent noticing any noise with your sound card this probably won't help you much.

This seems to be targeting a similar market to Schiit and JDS labs low end DACs. It's $20 cheaper or so, so it seems like a good deal if you are looking for a high quality usb DAC.

I have the Grace Design m9xxx from Massdrop and love the sound. My headphones go to the m9xxx and the m9xxx plugs into my laptop. In short, the m9xxx has two parts: a DAC and a Headphone amp.

The "X" is just the DAC (read what jhyman said). It has the AK chipset rather than Sabre chipset. That is usually a good thing for my ears as the Sabre chips usually sound brittle and harsh to my ears. The Massdrop website says that the AK4452 only goes up to 24khz / 92khz. This is great for a majority of high-res recordings but may not satisfy those who want the last detail of every note or those willing to spend much more money. Considering Grace Design's excellent track record and considering the price, this might prove to be a stellar deal. We won't know until it ships.

I see the massdrop web site has a picture that shows the "X" matched with an O2 headphone amplifier. That may be the perfect combo for office or bedside table!

People always look at me funny when I say I have a Schiit DAC, and love it.
