Harbor Freight Haul Master 1195 lb. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Heavy Duty Folding Trailer - $259.99 AC

The trailer is extremely inexpensive. It's rated for 55 mph. A lot of people on the internet report success at higher speeds but caution to repack the wheel bearings with a quality grease rather than what they come with. Surprisingly most of the reviews I came across were positive. One word of caution that the trailer is metric, which may make replacement parts in a pinch difficult to find.

This folding trailer only takes up 24 in. x 63 in. of floor space when folded, so it can be stored just about anywhere, but unfolded, it can handle up to 1195 lb.. Add plywood decking for a 48 in. x 96 in. bed. Hitch this folding utility trailer to a vehicle that has a 1-7/8 in. ball hitch to transport securely.
Frame folds to fit 2 ft. x 5 ft. 3 in. of floor space
Heavy duty steel frame with baked enamel finish
Frame has built-in slots for stake siding (stake sides and trailer contents not included)
Trailer bed tilts all the way to the ground for easy loading and unloading
Three leaf spring suspension
Two 4.8 x 12 in. diameter tires (spare tire sold separately)
Complies with applicable DOT standards

It's $259.99 with coupon code 86078443

I have one of these trailers and I do fold it up in my garage but I will tell you that unfolding it and folding it back up is very dangerous unless you have two relatively strong guys doing it.. last time i unfolded mine so I could get some mulch I hit my leg.. if it hit my kneecap i would have been totally f.... but as it was it hit the side of my leg and I still have a scar.. I am a relatively healthy and somewhat strong guy I worked in automotive and construction for a number of years... and I honestly fear it. so take that word of warning.

other than that its an ok trailer that goes together in about a day or so if you do all the details..(it took me a week but I really took my time to make sure it was perfect) It comes with 2x4 mounts for the sides so you can build your own railing.. I did that.. you can't have the railing on while its folded.. I also mount thin plywood on the inside of that so I can haul bulk mulch.. I have hauled a lawn tractor on it about 30 miles on the highway.

I don't suggest you speed in it.. its a nice trailer but have some sanity

Also i strongly suggest you buy shrink wrap tube for the wiring when you install it so that it will protect it better and take your time routing it and get some liquid electrical tape.

half inch plywood is good enough for most people.. I used construction adheasive to attach it to the deck and rounded over zinc plated carriage bolts.. you will need to put another $100 into it to get it rolling...

ALSO VERY IMPORTANT.. repack the wheel bearings.. go to walmart and get high temperature grease and then clean out the grease in their wheel bearings and then repack them or you might end up having one freeze up on you in the middle of nowhere...

this trailer is only for mid to better mechanically inclined people .. its not easy and not quick to put together but in the end you save hundreds over any other trailer you will find and its reasonably easy to store as long as you don't mind losing a kneecap.. really its fricken dangerous for one person.

you will need to register it with your DMV but normally there is no inspection just a fee for registration.. also the insurance on your car or truck should cover it without need to buy additional insurance.

Trust me you don't want to break your Patella (Knee Cap), my Girlfriend just broke hers less than 3 weeks ago. She may never have full range of motion again and it's about 6-9 months of painful physical therapy which she hasn't even begun. Not to mention about 25% of the time they have to remove the plate (or wires) and you have to rehab all over again!

Be careful with you knees!

How were you folding and unfolding it? I see videos on youtube of people doing it by themselves using a ratchet strap.

I owned one of these for about 10 years. I paid $175 back then used it for 10 years and sold it for $150. The only issue I really had was with the wiring. As was said above, I'd recommend adding some protection. All in all if you just occasionally need a trailer, this is a great value.

Trailer is $250 at this weekend's parking lot sale. That is about as good as it gets now that its excluded from general coupons.
As stated above, the bearings must be cleaned and repacked. It may look like they come with grease but that is just a rust protection.

I had this trailer for a year and hauled my motorcycles on it with my station wagon. It's a nice trailer for the price. I didn't repack the bearings immediately and it was fine for short trips. I eventually repacked them before heading out on longer trips. It is very light and bounces around a lot when towed unloaded.

Also, the fender mount plates are made of soft metal with a stamped pattern for added rigidity. These plates eventually bend under the weight of the fenders and make contact with the tires. I was lucky to see then rubbing before they caused a tire blowout at speed. I highly recommend getting them reinforced at a local machine shop before installation. Mine cracked and the local metal dealer was nice enough to make me a replacement set from much sturdier material at a reasonable price.

Does anyone know why the folding trailers no longer show up at harborfreight.com?

I wondered the same thing. I've had my eye on one of these for a few months, but they seem either out of stock of discontinued. I'll let you know if I find out which.

Ok, It took a bit of digging, but they may be temporarily dead. I knew they had wheel problems past 55 mph, but apparently they've pulled the product to review the safety concerns.

I hope it comes back soon! At lower speeds it seemed like quite a deal!
