Fair printer for the price. Low ink cost and very dependable. I bought mine 2-3 years ago already and it's going strong

Thanks ppl for your reviews. Few questions. Thank you.

1) Will it scan both sides using document feeder?
2) Will it print black only if one of the color cartridges is empty?
3) Any cheap non branded ink alternatives?

I've been using Brother All-in-one printers for a few years now & they have served me very well. I don't have this model, but an older one that appears to be very similar & it's still working great. I always use cheap ink cartridges purchased from Amazon for my brother printers(something kind of like this.... https://www.amazon.com/GPC-Image-...MFC-J485DW ). The only problem that I've ever had(this may have happened with the "real" Brother ink too if I'd been using it) was when I didn't use the printer for months and I think the ink dried up and would no longer print right. A few cleaning cycles cleared up the problem though. I am never going back to the type of inkjet that incorporates the print head into the cartridge....WAY too expensive for ink! I have mine hooked through an Obihai phone line for faxing & it works great for that function as well.

I have the J825DW from 3 to 5 years ago. Similar features I believe and brother is the only brand that I have found to be reliable and dependable. I have never had any problems printing or scanning. I buy ink from alternative ink companies and never had a problem. I can buy replacements for less then 10 bucks for all 4 cartridges.

I had to return it, as I was not able to connect it to the internet nor the agent over the phone was able to. May be it was just that printer

I find that the scanner auto feed does not always load the pages straight in. Have to be very careful in making sure everything feeds straight. Could just be me or my unit.

If you are not doing heavy volume, I scanned the two sides as individual files and then merge them. I use pdftk free option to do this. Use the command line option for alternate pages and not the interface.

Good printer.

I got this model last winter. For some reason, it absolutely hates my 3rd party cartridges I got off Amazon. It'll say it's out of ink (even though I replaced the cartridge a few days before) and then the black sometimes comes out as a grey rather than a black and I need to clean the print heads for it to work again.
