Man, I got this last month for $99.

TU, seems like a great deal! The sub is pretty nice and blends well with my insignia bookshelfs. Gotta go before the bass snobs are here.... Big Grin

I'd disagree.

Not sure what bookshelf speakers you have but let's pick a pair that's generally ranked the best 'cheap' set- the Pioneer BS22s... their frequency response is down to 55Hz.

And octave is from a given frequency to half (or double) that frequency.

So the 2 octaves under that would be 27.5Hz to 55Hz.... and then 13.75Hz to 27.5Hz

This "sub" won't add 2 octaves to your range. It'll add a bit more than half of 1 octave to it.

The Dayton Sub1200 mentioned would give 1 whole octave below your bookshelves, and maybe dip a tiny bit into the second octave.

You'll need to spend at least $400 on a sub to get most of that second octave down though (and only then if you're lucky enough for the Klipsch R-115SW deal for $399 to come around again- otherwise you're talking $650-750 on sale to get most of the second octave).

If you want something that plays down the full 2 lower octaves you're talking stuff north of $1500 unless you build it yourself.

I got this when last time it made it to the front. It is a decent sub for a low budget set up.

Good little sub. Used mine for years before replacing the driver with a bolt in from morel from parts express wow what a difference. The little amp and box worked really well with it.

It's an alright sub. For the price you can't go wrong. I upgraded to a klipsch down fire sub a year later.

According to the frequency response chart this doesn't get low enough to be a proper sub. I have one in my shop paired with a couple of bookshelf speakers and it rocks my world. So, not an audiophile's delight, but serviceable in any less demanding application.

For this price? uh, yeah. Unless you need better.

These are fine if you've never had a sub before or want a little thump on a strict budget. It doesn't go very low, so you will be missing a lot of lfe on certain movies. Certainly a better option than no sib at all, but most people will be better served to save up and spend a little more.

I loved this sub until it was the weakest link in my setup and I replaced it with an Hsu. For this price I suppose you can't go wrong if you need something to go thump with your bookshelves. Still using mine in a bedroom setup 10 years later.
