Ah, the molten lava core processor. Literally a hot one (not in a deal way). You gotta make sure you buy one of the only three motherboards that can handle this sucker in power and an expensive cooler to keep it from going on fire.

Would this be a nice cheap upgrade to my i7 920 system that's been having stability issues lately?

It is North Bridge: AMD 990FX and South Bridge: AMD SB950 don't let the motherboard name confuse you.

I'll might as well chime in on this seeing as i still own a 9590 rig. Yes $120 is cheap, But that might as well be $200 because you have to buy a -GOOD- Liquid cooler. There is a reason they are NOT sold with air CPU coolers. I have an Arctic Freezer,we are on our second cooler i have had my board that long. The cooler didn't go bad i just dont allow things to wear out.

The board we use. MSI 990FXA-GD65, it ran the FX8*** like a champ and now it runs this. I wont use G/Byte boards, they tend to warp and slow down within 2-3 months. Gigabyte claims that's not a "Warranty Replacement" issue and wont replace the boards. Its happened to every G/Byte build i have done. It goes mostly un noticed by people because its not real pressing issue.

We have a RM850 powering two SLI 980's and 4xCrucial (250gb )SSD in a R-0 config, 16GB of one of the SKH Brands of memory -(probably GSkill ) @2300. And 4 extra case fans for board and Crossfire cooling.

Now my kid wouldn't give that unit up. I built him a I7-4790-GTX 1070 rig and he used it about an hour. I wouldn't waste my money on this older technology at this point though my rig is old. For the cost of the CPU/MB/Cooler you can get a recent i5-MB combo that allows a little future proofing
