If your budget is $400, the X2400H is a great deal. $700 may be a great deal for a better receiver but if you don't have $700 to spend it doesn't really matter. And for a lot of people the 4800 is a lot more receiver than they need. Even for me the X2400H is way too much, but as you move down you lose features that start to matter and as you move up you pay for features you never use. Such is life.

Tough choice. Looked at exactly the same ones. Actually Denon S930H was my target but the X2400H is slightly nicer for $40 more (based on the best price I've seen for the S930H) and get an extra year of warranty and Audyssey XT.
At today's price, the Denon, there's no deal on the Yamaha. In my case I've also been using Denons for many many years so I know their AVRs (yes, they don't make them like they used to, but nobody else is either unless you go Pro $$$). Yamaha supposedly has better build quality/reliability, but I have no first hand experience with them. There's also the question of YPAO vs Audyssey MultiEQ XT.
For me it looks like it will be another Denon for the next few years, just picked up the deal at Fry's.

The x1400H is also on sale for $379 but the x2400H is the better deal for $20 more.

I don't think Fry's does free shipping unless you do local delivery but that means there has to a store close by.
