This is an ok price. Not great. The combined price is great, but only if you really want a fatpack. Boxes can usually be had for $82-$85 when a new set releases.

Millions of people. One of those things you don't pay attention to unless it's something you're into. I'm actually going this weekend to my local store to (re)learn how to play as a new hobby. I was into it as a wee lad and felt like giving it a go again.

I bought 3 packs of a 2015? core? or something for fun because I used to play and got a $100 card, sold on ebay for $100.

This merchant has such unbelievably bad reviews, I'll stick with my local shop.

I started playing again last year after not playing for 12 or so years. I'm into it now more then ever. It's can still be very expensive, but now as an adult I can actually afford it.

great deals - while you can find boosters cheaper, its usually from tcgplayer online storefront where they might be opening cases for singles and when the pull a real expensive card the rest of the booster boxes in the case go out to customers.

i doubt massdrop is opening boxes to sell singles, so its worth the extra $3

To answer your question, our gaming group for the most part does not collect magic anymore. But we do occasionally use a new set as an excuse to buy an entire box and hold a draft among friends. Its cinch to get 8 to commit and way less work than going through old cards to build a cube to draft.8 people. the buyer usually collects 7*12 = 84. And everyone has a good time for a cheap night out.

I play Pokemon online TCG and really enjoy it. The fun of a TCG without investing hundreds of dollars. That being said, out of curiosity, what does a competitive MTG deck actually cost?

Depends on what format and what level of competitiveness, but I'd say $100-400 usually. I used to get away with a ~$50 deck at local places, but I never competed at the state or national level.
