That would be a sweet buy.

I've been eyeing up this unit and the Optoma HD142X (available for $479 on eBay) as budget entry-level projectors for my basement. It's relatively dim/dark down there and I'd want to mount it a good ways from a screen that I'll build. I hope to use it mostly for football and movies from time to time. Can anybody help me decide between the two?

I've had this unit for 4 years. It's nothing short of AMAZING!! Buy a carl's black out cloth for your screen.

Thank you for recommendation and cloth tip, but it's not going to work for my setup. I did some measurements. I can only go up to about 94" diagonal and the ideal placement for the projector would be 19' from the screen (since that side of the room is drop ceiling and the closer side isn't. The specs call for the BenQ to be no more than about 10' away.

I'll still give the deal a thumbs up based on all the positive feedback and this excellent price for it. Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of it.

I have the BenQ ht 3050, and it's been amazing!! Mine is set about 16 ft from screen and size of screen is about 140 inches diagonally. Look for a short throw (ST) if you'd like to place projector really close to screen. If you have to set projector to right or left of center, look for models that have horizontal keystone.
