Not a bad deal if you need it today. But its been $39.99 a lot in the past few months. Most recently last week.

The sets are usually a terrible value unless you really need the specific funky assortment of sockets that they come with. Check the contents listing; they ALWAYS skip sizes (so now you have to go buy a bunch of $5 singles) and most sets are heavily padded with trash-tier allen keys and/or driver bits.

This set has a good socket run. Worth 40 for sure

i got this for $39.99 last week.. good for simple oil change! This only comes with 1 mid-size extension, might need a shorter one for some cars.

Would this one be a better deal at $53.99?

It's 118 piece, same number of hex wrenches and bits, but includes 6 more sockets and two more open box wrenches. It also gets you over the $49 hump for free shipping. It looks like the 118 has only gone as low as $59.99 in the past.

In for one of the mechanic sets. With SYW point I was able to get it for $40. Nice set to keep in the truck for emergencies. I will probably use it mostly for trips to the junk yard so I dont have to throw a bunch of stuff from my garage box into a smaller one

This is good, accurate general advice for Sears socket sets. But there are exceptions, and this is one of them. The 118-pc set mentioned is good too.

I have found the most annoying thing is when they give you a zillion 1/4" drive sockets in 6pt, 12pt, 6pt deep, 12pt deep, all of that in both SAE and metric. If you're like most people and use metric sockets about 95% of the time, you just got a suitcase half-full of crap that you will never ever use.

This set is only 6-pt, so that cuts out half the stuff you'd never use. I'd say it is a great first set. Maybe even small and cheap enough to leave in your cars for convenience and roadside use.

At a similar price point, here is a really nice set with absolutely zero crap. But it is a max axess set, which will cause some incompatibility with the rest of your tools. They make a "universal" socket version, vs. this one which is all 6-pt. I personally have sometimes had problems with the universal sockets, and prefer 6-pt.

just received my 108 piece set. I can't believe all the hex wrenches are in a single ziplock bag. would have cost them maybe 10 cents for a holder so they are organized in the case, and not mixed metric and inch together.
