not a bad deal, considering it would cost me about the same to weld one together

I was looking at these, but got the $50 Reese ones from WallyWorld. Common complaints seem to be holes not lining up, cheap hardware, and the bottom rail not fitting crossbars. The nice thing about the Reese ones were the arched bottom rail which worked nicely on my Town & Country.

The Reese one's ratchet straps also had rubber covers to protect your vehicle/kayak and front/rear ropes as well.

There are actually cheaper options on Amazon if you're buying a pair of these.

I have had these for a few years, no complaints for the price. My 13' is too big so I'm getting feet instead. Buying them in pairs (if you need them) is going to be a bit cheaper if you keep you eye out.

$81.89 expert installation fee kills the deal.

These are only about 20% off, so I don't see how it's all that slick.

Can't find them used on CL for less than $50, though.

Look up kayak racks on ebay, I got 2 pairs for $35 or so, and they're all just generic rebrands of the same thing.

They're pretty good quality, sometimes the holes wouldn't line up easily during assembly, but they do with some effort. Worth the money you save by assembling it yourself.

Make sure the crossbars on your car aren't too wide, my racks accommodate crossbars about 1.25" wide or so, while the bars on my forester are wider. They fit by sitting in the notch on the bottom of the rack but mine kind of just sit over the crossbar and I tightened the hell out of it.
