My Local Walmart has HP Omen Core I7 (15-ax250wm) on clearance. Seems like a very good deal.

I thought I just saw the Omen display start two weeks ago. It is a prominent display when you walk into the electronics section. How is it possible that WM would put it on sale for 50% off that soon? With those specs? Hmmm...

WM recently discounted the XB1s with Battlefield 1 to $150. It's not out of the question for them to do stuff like this. There's an HP laptop going for $199 at some stores, saw it on sale for $279 at certain locations, and it turned out it was fetching almost $400 on eBay. Their pricing is all over the place but I couldn't care less as long as I keep making money off of them.

I am at the point that thinks Walmart is using these ymmv deals as a marketing ploy. Think about it. They throw out a couple of bones out there in their stores. Get us to salivate. Head in droves to the stores on wild goose chases. It boosts their traffic numbers. How many end up with zilch and still buy something since they are already there? All this for their cost of breaking even on outdated items. Plus getting rid of the old crap to make space for more. Heck, I am even starting to think brickseek is a new marketing arm of the retail giants. Very clever. Very clever.

Thousands go into each of their stores each day. How many people do you really think across the country actually drive to a Wal-Mart to see if they can get this one specific unadvertised YMMV deal? Do you really think that has any sort of substantial impact on Wal-Mart as a whole? Absolutely not.

Just enough for a price protection claim.

You almost described how the black Friday deals work, with long lines before stores opening.

While I am not saying Walamart is experiencing the SD effect with these ymmv deals (even when some get posted on FP). But brick and mortar retail isn't what it use to be thanks to Amazon. Sears, Macy's, etc and yes even Walmart are closing stores. So if they can get physical bodies in their stores it's a good thing. Heck, if WM wanted to clear inventory they could simply put out internal memos for their employees to snatch these deals up. Instead they have tech savy deal hunters who would barely step foot in WM otherwise flocking to their stores. Which is a better move for them? It's just a thought.
