Edit: Amazon is OOS, please see the front page post below for same deal at Walmart

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1

18 inch blade is ideal for clearing brush, cutting trails, stripping logs or felling small trees
One-handed use leaves your other hand free to grab and pile cuttings, unlike other tools that require a two-handed grip
Tempered steel machete blade is precision-ground to cut with less effort
Aggressive saw on the other side cuts on the push and pull stroke to take down thick branches and trunks quickly
Lifetime warranty
Ideal for clearing brush, cutting trails, stripping logs or felling small trees

For Walmart, the stock depends on your zip code or city. If it's OOS for you, try another zip code or city if you can.

Very good price.. I bought earlier this year for $11.60.
It's just basically what it is -- made in China, not anything special, but for an $11 machete, you can't go wrong, really. I assume it will be good when I finally put it to use against some brutal vines (blackberry). I haven't used it yet because it's been too hot and smoky here so I had an excuse to stay inside and not work the yard much. As someone will usually ask on SlickDeals, I suspect it would be good against zombies also, though you might want something larger and heavier. This might not have enough "oomph" and not enough reach so the zombie would already be on you by the time you were able to connect. (just kidding about that last part.. zombies aren't real... or are they?)

This is an OK Machete for the price, but if you actually want to use the tool (not just play with it), then go for the made in USA Ontario Knife Company 6144 Military Machete - Retail Package, 18" [amazon.com] for $27. It $23 from Amazon, but it's out of stock at the moment. This is a WAY better tool and is strong enough to actually use it regularly.

Also, this one for 19 bucks: Ontario Knife Co 1-18" Military Machete [amazon.com]

And this 22" model with a "D" handle for 25 bucks: Ontario Knife Company 8519 Heavy Duty Knife with "D" Black Handle - Retail Package, 22" [amazon.com]

Wonder if this would work on tree roots (3-4inches)? I have an overgrown sycamore with above ground roots growing into my yard.

Depends how in shape you are.

Because you're going to be swinging this thing forever. It has no ass weight.

You'd want a maul you could destroy to deal with tree roots that virile.

Not very. Smilie

I used to have a great maul for chopping firewood that would have been perfect. But the buddy who gave it to me borrowed it and never returned it!

I really like the Ontario products. I have an SP8 which isn't really as practical as a basic machete when it comes to clearing brush. But I'd prefer a Tramontina to this Fiskars.

A mattock or axe might be a better bet for this purpose. You can find them at a comparable price.
