Samsung® TLC V-NAND
PCIe Gen 3.0 x 4 NVMe
Single-Sided Design
Up to 3,000MB/sec read speed
Up to 1,700MB/sec write speed
Random 4KB Read: 330K IOPS
Random 4KB Write: 360K IOPS

The PM961 performs about 10% slower than a 960 EVO. Given current SSD prices, this seems like a great deal to me. New 1TB SATA drives are ~250, new PM961s are $350, and 960 EVOs are $400.

I wouldn't be too worried about drive wear. Being a OEM channel consumer-level drive, these are probably pulled from returned laptops and not servers. Mine came with 50GB read and write, a handful of power cycles, and a single power on hour. Newegg claims 90 day warranty, but being an OEM channel drive and refurbished at that, I'm skeptical. Samsung almost certainly will not warranty the drive, the only possible warranty would be through Newegg's (unknown) refurbisher.

Performance is top tier - the only drives that beat this are the other Samsung NVME drives (960 EVO/PRO, SM961), and not by much.

Why do you need to flash the firmware? And like I said in the OP, I got mine with 50GB read/write to the drive. Basically new.

No it cannot be flashed with normal methods. It is an OEM drive. I have seen these drives used by OEM Storage Vendors where firmware was updated. However I dont think the a normal consumer will be able to flash.

However it may be possible with some ent ssds via the ent tool: http://www.samsung.com/semiconduc...prise.html

No way to know how much life is left. You take your chances... One guy reported minimal wear. YMMV

I would not get this drive for primary OS. It would however be great for a main install drive to run games from. I would not use it for critical data tho.

Need folks opinion. Do you think this drive would have enough bandwidth to pull 4 4k video streams at once to my 4 4k monitors? I like to be able to watch 4 pron vids at once. Do you think I need to but 2 and put in Raid0?

refurb? or just pulled from a broken machine?

newegg should start labeling things properly.

new
used
manufacturer refurbished
seller refurbished

if it's used, just call it used. like those 3TB HGST drives. they're not refurbished. they are used pulls

I bought this earlier this week and received it a couple days ago. CDI/CDM marks were good and power use was 2 hours. I don't regret the purchase and would buy more if I needed it
