I have a old 1tb wd and it glitches every once in awhile not playing data or even showing up. The drive passes tests it is just the cable or connection being flakey. if i fiddle and get it in the right position (and keep it that way) it normally works fine. That's the disadvantage of externals but most of the time its the internal drive that fails. I never treated that 1tb as well as my other externals and even if I did that's the chance you take when adding failure points to anything (besides hd you have adapter and cable).

As for faster speeds that happens when you have newer more mature tech vs older. You cant really compare even a few years old 7200rpm drive to a newer 5900 rpm drive. Also I have been told if platter density is higher (how they cram 4tb into the same space as your old 2tb etc) than the drive head has less physical space to travel resulting in faster speeds.

What i am saying is if you got a new seagate it would be the same exp pretty much. I don't like seagates 1yr warranty over the wd 2yr. I am also warry of the drives used. Seagate has used archive drives in storage expansion externals. they say the archive drives are for seldom right and put in a safe for deep storage. You would not want to use them as daily drivers per seagate than they sell it to you in a external to be used that way.

I don't have a preference for hd mfg i normally go with the longest warranty and best price. The price to replace any hd is much cheaper than a data recovery service so I always have a few spares available that a 3rd backup set is on.

This was my third external hard drive purchase. I have decided to go with WD this time because it was the better of my previous two... The first one was a 1 TB WD MyPassport, the second was a 2 TB Seagate Expansion (The smaller one). For whatever reason, I fount the WD to load and transfer faster and was less glitchy when playing movie files off it.

This WD Easystore drive has a 4.8 score with 1400 reviews, which is reassuring. I do not know how long this will be on sale for, but I will let you all know my rating in two days!!!

Anyone try this with a Dish DVR receiver? Does it show up as 4TB or just 2TB?
Meaning does it let you record and access all 4TB? Thanks!
