Screen is updated ips. Be aware that this is a max q 1060 so it does perform 10-15% less than a regular 1060. I bought the i7 version with 16 gb ram for around $1040 . I used the student pricing along with 10% off discover deals . You don't even have to be a student , they don't verify . I thought it was a sweet deal for the configuration I purchased . I contacted dell customer support and they assured me I will also get $100 bonus rewards along with $31.33 I received from the purchase .

If you consider that $100 Dell Reward and plan to buy something from Dell, then yes. Otherwise, it is a good deal, if not great.

Fantastic deal if you can use the $100, still a great deal even if you can't. Alienware has the highest build quality of any gaming laptop I've tried (I've tried most if not all).

If you're not going to be carrying it around all day then probably. It's a little rare for computers with gtx 1060 to fall under $1k. Pros of this computer are longer battery, cons, heavier and mediocre screen. Unless they updated the screen.

I just ordered an refurb Alienware 13R3 for about $900 all-in with a 1060 and a 1080p IPS screen.

Should I return that one for this dell? Battery life looks pretty tempting since I may take it to school, but does the size overweigh that?

Battery life has been reduced compared to previous Inspiron 7000 model by about 30% . Supposedly it was done for the 1060 they put in now . They claim 7 hours of battery life , down from 10 on the 1050 ti model . Also your Alienware has a better 1060 but the form factor is bigger compared to this one . Also i believe it has a 7th gen intel processor compared to the 6th gen on the cheaper Alienware refurbs . The 1060 max q allowed them to retain a sleeker form factor .

The price is too close from the Alienware 13. And it's day and night in terms of quality
