Exactly, this is not worth $159.99 when it's only a regular Blu-ray player that upscales to 4K. Of which I've never actually seen any 4K upscaling that was any good. Regular FHD Blu-rays look just as good in a regular Blu-ray player like in a PS4 than they will in this supposed 4K upscaler.

Based on the description on BB site, this plays UHD 4K movies. That being said, I'd still rather have a ONE S over this.

Does the Xbox One S support Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos?
And, what's the cheapest bundle or lowest price that has ever been to date? I might pull the trigger on BF since it's coming soon...

Thanks!

I believe it does both now also after a recent update. Google it to be sure!

For most people an xbox one s will be passable. But if you want the best out of your tv do yourself a favor and get a stand alone player. Yes that includes playing uhd discs and not streaming the digital uhd versions. For the price, you won't get a better player than this sony.

I have an XB1S and I agree with the advice to get one if you are a frequent gamer. However, if you are like me and mostly just want an UHD player and rarely or never want to play games, I do not recommend the XB1S.

In the XB1S, the disc spinning is loud and ends up being audible and distracting during quiet scenes. The console UI is geared toward games, advertisement, avatars, etc., and not movies--in fact you have to download an app to play discs. The controller is super awkward to use for movies--the controls are not intuitive and it keeps going to sleep due to lack of input such that if you want to do something simply like pause, you have to sit there and wake up the controller first. You can buy media remotes, but then count that into your cost. The XB1S does not do Dolby Vision (neither does this Sony, but there are players that do), so if your TV supports DV or you plan on getting one that does, I wouldn't get the XB1S because HDR is pretty important.

This is Sony's premium UHD player, it definitely plays UHD 4K BD discs. It is not just an upscaler.

It supports Dolby Atmos, but not Dolby Vision, just HDR10.

The Sony player has dual HDMI outputs for those who don't have a receiver with 4k pass-through.

I don't know how this compares to the Sony, but a brand new Philips BDP7501 UHD Player is $120 + shipping at Monoprice. [monoprice.com]

For reference the Philips is $166 on Amazon. [amazon.com]
