The last one of these I bought had a blue drive. From the comments in the last thread, mostly people saying they're blues now, I think it's unlikely we'll see reds in these again

Yeah, as others have said these no longer have the red drives inside. Or its highly unlikely.

Why buy this, when u can get a 4TB portable drive for $95? Check this slickdeal link:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10568384-wd-4tb-external-usb-3-0-portable-hard-drive-for-99-99-free-shipping
One reason is because people buy these to extract the drive and use it internally. Unfortunately, the WD portable drive you list has the USB port on the internal drive, not a normal SATA connector, making it useless as an internal drive.

I would guess you could open the 4TB desktop drive enclosure and take out the drive and use it in a desktop machine.

How would we know what color drive it is without opening it?

In my experience, Blues hold up better and longer than reds. Any reason to want red over blue, or have blues quality gone down in past few years?

Backblaze would strongly disagree with you

Are the 8tb the only ones with reds now or did they turn blue as well?
