HJC FG-17 Motorcycle Helmet (XL & XXL) - $67 + $12 s/h - Motorcyclegear.com

$67.00

This is a great price on HJC's middle tier full-face helmet (the CL-17 is their entry tier in full face). Fiberglass shell. Wind-tunnel tested. Snell and DOT rated.

Black and red Banshee pattern only, sizes M-XXL. Now in XL and XXL only. MotorcycleGear is a fine place to do business, too.

Price is good through this week only. (Sunday the 24th probably, but MG frequently sells out.) Shipping adds $12, or pad your order to $89+ to get free shipping. An extra HJ-20M face shield (tinted perhaps) will get you over the free shipping threshold. (See link below) The $3 chin curtain is a good idea also.

This is likely a model closeout, with an FG-18 coming soon.

BloodAngl,

Have you painted them before? What's your approach?

Kind of iffy on hjc quality. I have one ~3 years old and the inside brim that connects to the styrofoam came off. Happened after 2.5 years. They glue it to the styrofoam. So, now it just kind of hangs on the top of my view. It'll stick back up, for a little bit until it falls again. I have an AFX 5 years old and still in excellent condition. Hjc is a great fitting helmet though, especially since there is room for the hinges on sunglasses.

Don't. Paints have the risk of weakening the plastic in the shell reducing protection.

My thinking is that yours is likely an exception. I've not had any problems over similar spans with my HJC helmets.

And as you say, fit is everything. HJC helmets don't fit everybody any more than expensive Arai and Shoei ones do.

Hence my curiosity.

I must say, though, that most fiberglass is quite paintable, and the rattle can varieties dry so fast that any effects of the solvent would seem to be minimal.

But I've never done it, either, so your point merits a better response than I can give.

On my second HJC and I really like the fitting. Quality also seems pretty good.
Can't beat it for the price/performance.

you're fine with painting a helmet. who cares if it might affect the helmet, where i live many people don't even wear a helmet at all. wearing a painted reduced helmet is perfectly ok as long as you or your passenger is aware of it. wouldn't be my primary helmet but ok as a backup or secondary.
