I couldn't imagine pairing this with a beefstick.

That's a heavy rod and traditionally paired with a conventional saltwater reel, not a low profile bait caster.

I own 12' beefstick with a Penn squidder and it's a good bait and wait combo for the surf.

I'm not exactly sure what the poster is asking for saying he will use this for pier fishing, not sure this is a good reel for that type of fishing to begin with.

Edit: I take some of that back since they do make some smaller beefsticks, however I still stand by the fact that that setup isn't something I would consider for pier fishing.

Not a good choice for pier fishing.

Do chicken tenders operate in a completely different way than chicken nuggets?

Looks like a good deal. I better untangle my Abu Garcia that's sitting in my garage. Spincasting to me is so easy and baitcasting has taken a lot of getting used to.

My son recently acquired his first baitcasting reel. I've never had or used one before (and really can't use his because I'm a lefty).

It has taken some learning, but he has stuck with it and likes it. If you're making the change, YouTube is your friend!
