So, Arkham Asylum and it's sequel Arkham City were originally released during the last console generation to great critical and commercial acclaim. Arkham Knight is the 3rd and most recent title in the series that was released in 2015 for current gen. The season pass adds more content to the game like story missions and alternate suits/Bat mobiles.

Last year however, the first 2 titles mentioned above were re-released for current gen in a remastered collection with improved graphics titled Return to Arkham, which also includes all add-on content.

There is another game in the franchise called Arkham Origins, developed by a different studio, which released after City, but is actually a prequel to the whole series where you play as a younger Batman. It was unfortunately not included in the Return to Arkham collection despite also being well received (although not as highly as the other titles).

So in summation, the core trilogy--Asylum, City, & Knight--are all available on PS4 with the former 2 as part of this collection and that's where one should start. Origins' absence is unfortunate, but it's also not required to follow the story. If you enjoy the core titles, I'd recommend eventually playing it on PC someday if you have a powerful enough one.

Hope this helps clear things up for you a bit.

Edit: Oh, and Arkham VR is, you guessed it, a VR-only game where you basically become Batman for a short experience. I'm not sure where it fits in the grand Arkham story as I've yet to play it, however the gameplay is completely different for obvious reasons, though it was developed by the original team. And while I'm at it, I might as well mention for the real nerds out there that there was another title in the series released for PS Vita, 3DS and PC called Arkham Origins: Blackgate. This was a sequel to Origins, but it's another obscure addition to the series that features different gameplay, in a side-scroller style.

Great deal. Would grab it in a second for this price if I didn't already have it.

How much of an improvement are these games over their PS3 versions? Worth an upgrade?

Looks to be a good improvement on the original as far as colors, but the 3d models all look the same and the performance doesn't seem to be significantly improved. Compared to the PC a lot of the lighting looks more sterile and less moody.

I've been waiting for the physical version to hit around $15 for such a long time, but it won't even drop below $25 ($27 on Amazon right now).

I hope Best Buy or Amazon will try to match it. Otherwise, I'll probably have to cave in and go digital because $12 is too good a deal to pass up. Unless this'll be one of those games to sell for $10 on Black Friday..

if you haven't played the previous games this is a no brainer, they're great games whether you like Batman or not. personally I don't mind playing it on 360, I replayed them when RtA came out and I didn't find myself craving graphical improvements.

Word I already have these on PC, but I wanted them for my next playthrough since they are different enough graphically to give me a taste of that "new game" feel.

Its been ported over to unreal engine 4. I have played through both and the upgrades are noticeable. Even more so on the pro.
