idk why, but it seems to be an industry standard. It comes out to 3 imperial pints, but that could just be a coincidence.
The last 4 kettles I've bought were all this size...

All of these pics but none with the lid flipped up.

I currently have a kettle but want one with a wide mouth for easy cleaning and maybe cooking ramen directly in it.

Any idea on the diameter of the kettle opening?

9x9 doesn't seem right and I'm guessing is just box dimensions
