If you need help with the product, you can always contact their Escort Service desk.
Is it worth the purchase? Quality, functionality, etc seem pretty good based on reviews but no ability to update is an issue. How often does the technology change in this space?

Depends on your budget. If this is the top of your budget, go for it.

If you have some more flex, go with a Uniden or higher level Escort.

Says no bluetooth and no USB to download updates, or block false alarms. Watered down version of X80. Also discontinued model.

It's a low end detector at a low price.

If you want the newest tech get a Uniden R1 for $300. $400 for a R3 that has GPS. GPS is useful to lockout false alerts like speed signs.

Escort rarely releases firmware updates so don't expect any. Their latest on their Max 360 has been controversial as it's somewhat buggy and decreases radar detection range in order to decrease false alerts from blind spot radar on newer cars.

If you can find a cobra dsp 9200 bt for $150 get it vs this detecter, cobras usually sux but in this price range 9200 is a much better performer/value, uniden Lrd950 /Dfr7 are good choices for this price range or if u can up your budget then definitely hands down uniden R1 based on the recent testing we have seen from multiple independent testers..

With radar detectors you get what you pay for. I would save up and go for a higher end model. I have owned many and you have to pay up. I have been running a redline for the past 7 years or so and that unit is rock solid overall. Some of the radenso units are also good. I tested Radenso's best one out along with the V1 and escort 360 but none of them were better than the redline for performance over a hill and around a corner. The 360 being the worst of them all and size wise its a bus.

Crap on a cord. Way too basic.

Got S55 few months back and have used for a recent trip for around 2K miles in TX and NM ...works well ....however noticed most of the times cops have their radar turned off...so you need to use common sense and keep scanning around to ensure ur not being followed. Good luck and drive safe👍
