Per https://www.wareable.com/vr/dell-...set-review

Microsoft's Mixed Reality platform is taking shape, with Asus and HP having made their headsets available as development kits, and confirmation that SteamVR content will run across all the systems.
Ergo, what are you saying?

SteamVR support has been officially announced, no date yet though. If I had to guess it will be before the holidays roll around.

As for this headset, better resolution that Vive and Rift and no stupid extra cameras to setup around the room. Just pre-ordered mine!

Hold your horses, homie. Evidently, you have to be looking in the direction of your controllers for them to be detected properly. That's a 100% no-go for me, I want to be looking one way and shooting another - and I do that a lot, and it's fun as hell.

I will absolutely not buy an inside-out headset until the tracking is full 360-degrees (or very close to it).

99% of tracking is done within the normal field of tracking, in rare instances that your hands will be behind you, at least they'll have an algorithm to generalize your out of view positioning which is fine for most things. I'm not putting down existing equipment other than the need for excessive cameras positioned around your space, the existing equipment is absolutely amazing. But, for the rest of us who have a good, but no great pc with discrete graphics for 90 hz viewing and those who have onboard graphics for 60 hz viewing, the windows headsets are an awesome option to now have. Cheers to VR!

I've done some looking, and it's possible that the tracking is workable:
https://uploadvr.com/hands-window...ntrollers/

But also, it's probably going to be less accurate to some currently-unknown degree due to the inertial measurement that happens when the controllers are out of the headset's field of view:
https://uploadvr.com/microsoft-mo...sets-6dof/
Other reviewers have said you can't move around too much out of the FoV.

So, I wouldn't take the risk to pre-order, for sure. But there's a possibility that I might go for them in the future, especially to get away from Vive's flaky controller build quality and for better resolution. Best wait to see how good the SteamVR compatibility + tracking is (if you want to game with them, that is).

But, please don't suggest the 99% figure. Not only is it likely wrong for many applications - for example, in a game where you might need to reach behind your back to grab an arrow (QuiVr) or another weapon (Gladius), or in a game where you might be holding the controller below your FoV waiting to pick up a gun out of your holster because you can only run full-speed without a gun in your hands (Pavlov) - but that 1% can easily make a game unplayable if out-of-FOV tracking is not good.

Fair enough. Look forward to seeing how everything is implemented over time. As for me, this should satisfy my needs without upgrading from my discrete RX 580 gpu which will buy me 1440 @ 90hz and the ability to use most of the VR software. Really looking forward to receiving it next month.

Also very excited here, but I'm happy to deal with the base stations until the solutions are in good shape. Really, really wanting a replacement for Vive's flaky controllers.
