"Illuminated" meaning backlit? Also this doesn't look like it but is it mechanical?

I have this keyboard, it is not mechanical, but it uses scissor switches (sorta like laptop keyboard but with more key travel). Yes, it is backlit (white light). Has four different brightness levels plus you can turn off the backlight. My favorite wireless keyboard

I'm typing on one right now. The keys are flat and laptop feeling. The illumination is white backlight,

It uses 2 AA rechargeable batteries that can either be charged with the USB cord, or in your own smart charger. The backlighting really eats into the battery time. If you leave the backlighting off (and what's the point really of having this if you're going to do that) you can probably get a couple weeks on battery. If you have the backlight on the lowest setting (the light up time is adjustable in Setpoint) and only activates when you touch or press a key (also options in setpoint) you will get a week of battery. If you turn the backlight to maximum on time (5 mins I think?), it goes down to days.

The only way to keep the backlight on all the time is to leave it plugged in. It's still a "wireless" keyboard in that you need the Unifying USB dongle, plugging it in only charges the batteries. And it won't work without batteries, even when plugged in.

What I did was since I like the backlight on all the time, I took out the good Eneloop AA's it came with and put in 2 of my crappiest, near dead NIMH batteries and leave it plugged in all the time. If you want to use on your lap, or as a true wireless keyboard, you'll want to leave the good Eneloops in. It can also use standard AA's if you want, but don't plug it in, it might try to charge the batteries and cause something to blow up.

The K800 is a sexy looking keyboard, but it's not the greatest for touch typing. All the keys are the same size and feel. F and J do have "bumps" to center your hands on, otherwise you'd be staring at the keyboard the whole time.

I've tried 3 other keyboards and 2 mechanical ones and I keep coming back to this. It's probably the best wireless keyboard you can buy under $100.

If you don't care about backlighting but just want wireless for the couch, look into the K360. It's smaller, with chicklet type keys, but it's only $20 on sale and the batteries last forever. I use one for my work laptop, next to the K800, no wireless interference or issues.

Probably the best HTPC / couch keyboard is the K400. It's even smaller than the K360 so is not a joy to type a novel on, but perfectly fine for couch surfing. And it has a little track pad so you don't need a mouse, but I wouldn't try to game with that trackpad. Also has mega battery life. There are 2 different versions but both basically the same thing, $20-30

All of these use the awesome Unifying USB receivers. Super easy to pair up different keyboards & mice to different systems.

And NO, I don't work for Logitech... I just have all these keyboards at my house. Smilie

The k830 or nothing else.

Not being a snob a I love sd but the 830 is a well built item and ive owned 2 of them and buy them as presents.

Rechargeable usb batt lasts for days

True illumination but subtle and nice

Touchpad works great

Dimensions and weight are on point.

Dropped it and tossed it dozens of times so ya
reliable

Point of My post is even if the k800 was 4 dollars on sale...no sale

I cant go back

Hey logitech farkin pay me. I lost my 830 during a recent move

Edit good lord the 830 has been on here for cheaper
