How is a hybrid drive different from a traditional hard disk drive?

Most frequently used files get moved onto the SSD portion of it so generally you get much better performance than standard SSD, especially boot times.

edit: better performance than standard hhd, not SSD.

This drive has 8gb flash memory while traditional hdd doesn't. I would still get an ssd instead of these hybrid drives unless you want storage

SSD are expensive atm so I'm waiting for black Friday. I do need a storage drive so is this a good deal?

There are a few reviews out there complaining that this doesn't operate like a proper hybrid drive. You might want to do a bit more research.

You are claiming that this mechanical-based drive out performs an SSD because of its SSD portion? That makes no sense to me. Can you please provide a link?
I'm pretty sure he meant the opposite. Read "Much better than standard NOT SSD drive".

That was probably a typo. He probably meant "better performance than standard HDD". An hybrid is somewhere in between an HDD and a SSD.

I am considering something like this for my small factor PC

Get this if you need storage, not for speed, but even then spend a little bit more for 2tb

Hybrids are a bit of a flop. Typically a user either needs speed or capacity in terms of storage. This is the reason why hybrids are more of a niche than for general usage.

So the "Hybrid" aspect of this drive is supposed to make up for it being a WD Black HDD that runs at 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM?
