What's with all these new high spec machines all including mechanical hard drives now? I thought those were ancient history since solid state has become reasonable... Why on Earth are they bringing them back?

the amd apu that came out last year is not considered high spec

still made on 28nm, would wait on ryzen apu (people keep thinking vega on die but I doubt it... polaris seems more reasonable, less compute, less power)

I see this deal is still live, I would avoid it like the plague.

I ordered one, took 3 days to ship and another 2 to arrive. Was DOA. Power button lit up, hard drive did nothing. I called to exchange it since I still needed a computer for the office. They said it would be here the following Monday. At the end of the day Tuesday I called to find out where it was. They said they had no notes for an exchange and they don't do exchanges, I would need to return it and repurchase. So I did. Same thing 3 days to ship, was supposed to arrive in 3 more days. Actually came the next day (this was the only good part). Same problem with the first computer, DOA.

Got aggravated, went to Costco locally and paid $100 more for a comparable i5 from HP which works just like it should.

I can see why Office Depot/Office Max is in trouble...

OP's link takes me to a 499 machine.

My parent's old Dell died and I need a cheap replacement for web browsing, etc for them.

Also, where's the info on the old laptop discount?
