I have the complete edition laser discs from around 1992.
It's a huge box and around 20 lbs but has probably the best pre-1997 print.
Could get it on eBay pretty cheap in the past

That's even better, thanks for posting. Something going on with Disney these last few months. All the Disney titles on sale. Most likely for re-releases but fingers crossed for 4K releases!!

On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light and Magic and John Knowles, our supervisor, he said that they've got a brand new 4K restoration print of A New Hope – it had literally just been finished. He suggested we sit and watch it."

I'm sure you're right.
I can't tell you how confusing all these formats are, though.

I have a 2009 50" Samsung plasma tv hanging over my mantle I'm looking to replace with something bigger. It's not as easy as you would think!
Half the places say, "you must have oled or you won't like the contrast/blacks" or "that tv isn't true hdr! You must get {blank}."
Or something to that effect.

I just throw my hands up and keep watching the old plasma until someone figures all this stuff out.

I also have a 73" DLP from about 7 years ago, but my kids play the Xbox Kinect on it, and would never know the difference between 4K or even 480p (although they got a kick out of the original Nintendo running on it, which my 6 year old calls, "playing old school.")
I just throw my hands
OLED is the best. Get one and you will be happy. When they say it isn't true HDR, they mean it can't hit 1000 nits peak brightness. It is still HDR, the contrast is just scaled to match the output of the panel.

just a gentle reminder that these are not the movies you are looking for.

Figure out how to get your hands on the semi-specialized versions and watch those instead.

The only Special Edition I don't find offensively bad is Star Wars. What they have done to Empire and Jedi just burns my blood.

Free is still too expensive for this slop. Vhs, original trilogy, the version it's meant to be without garbage edits.

Do the digital copies ever go on similar sale? This deal is nice but I'm holding out because I really want digital copies.

Silver Screen Edition of New Hope and De-Specialized of V&VI are the only way I will watch the original trilogy at this point.
