The cheapest international flights get prior? (US to China)

Hello,
I am a student looking to travel from Richmond, VA to Chengdu, China to visit my girlfriend during around the time of Dec. 16 - Jan 4. I have been keeping track of the prices on StudentUniverse, Priceline, and Google Flights. The cost is looking roughly $1400 and has seemed to only go upwards (from ~$1100 a couple of weeks ago). But the start of December looks to be about $600 (Unfortunately during my final weeks of classes).

I was wondering if anyone could tell me when the cheapest it would be to buy the tickets? Do I need to wait until two months prior (three weeks from now as some googling suggests)? Or have I missed the cheapest point it will reach? Any other websites would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Any help at all where to ask? The price is still going up and I'm getting really worried here! Would the airport know the answer to this question?

Check Google Flights for historical fares for the cities you're planning to travel to/from. It should help you decide when to fly and give you an estimate of the expected cost. Hope this is of help to you.
