Usually sales are 169, at least once have been 159 though. This is still $10 cheaper than I've seen them elsewhere for people who can't wait.

I initially became excited, as I initially thought "black" was describing the verified model of the HD inside. $20 more for verified blacks, if along with the extended 5-yr(?) warranty compared to Reds, could have been worth it.

It has been twice at $160 in the last couple months. Before that $180 is the typical sale price.

It doesn't matter what drivers inside, if you pay for a unit with a 2 year warranty, the unit will only come with a two-year warranty

Is there any quality external HD that comes with a 5-yr warranty?

Thanks for the post OP. I was hoping it would drop down to $159 or $169 since I bought 8 at 199 on the 14th for my NAS build. Either way you just saved me about $175 back to my CC due to price matching themselves.

For what it was worth all of my boxes said Thailand on the bottom and were RED WD80EFAX drives with the 256MB cache size.

woohoo.. couldn't resist
Calm down. $180 is usually the beginning, in two days it goes to $170 then $160 and everyone triggered.

This time let's hold off until it gets to $130, I've got plenty of these drive anyway but could stock a few if it hits $130.

Which CC is that? It's automatic?

No, I had to call both stores I went to and they did it over the phone without my card. If you make the purchase online you can use any of the popular cash back type apps to get 1%-2% back as well.

Not as low as it was just a little while ago, but I needed a drive so I picked one up today. WD Red inside. Hopefully it drops in the next 60 days and I can use Citi Price Rewind to get back the difference.

Discover specifically excludes drives from it's price protection or I would have used it (90 days).

These drives are used by consumers so they have short warranties...If you want a hard drive with a 5 year warranty you have to buy Enterprise hard drives and those cost twice as much as a consumer drive.
