Thx! Bought one to play around with. Btw, I wouldn't be surprised if this was "talking" externally to China. I'll keep mine local and access remotely via VPN.

I have two of the 720P versions and they are great. Picks up motion really good and rarely has a notification delay. Picking up the 1080P and the Nest case for external mounting to keep an eye on the driveway.

Thanks OP!

I bought one two weeks ago and am asking if they can give me a refund using that code

I havent set it up yet, but have been playing with it. It's great. It has very good video quality and I am specially happy about night vision. The app is cool and easy to use.

I've been trying to get a 720 version working as a standalone cam saving footage to the SD card without wifi connection. Haven't been able to get it working consistently yet. Anyone have experience with the 1080p yi cam off-grid?

I got two of these thinking wireless meant battery powered. Not the case at all... has to be plugged in.

The basics are that you keep the camera internal to your network(home environment) do not allow it to use the "cloud" storage and block any ports that this camera talks out from besides the standard port.
VPN access allow you to access your internal network((home environment) through a secured tunnel connection. Most routers have a built in VPN access and can be used for free such as OpenVPN.

I get most of my info from this site, ipcamtalk.com forum [ipcamtalk.com]

I would go with reputed brands or Don't add a cam at all. Unless you are some tech geek who know what you are doing.
