If you are spending $400 for a belt, not sure what you are doing on Slickdeals 😊

Sorry to say but looks like you paid exorbitant amount of money for a leather belt (primarily for designed brand/store profits) than the actual cost of material/labor required + say 50% profit margin. Although there is a vast quality difference in the types of leather, you can get reasonably last longing leather belts for $5-8 piece if you watch out for sales. I bought some of mine at Costco (still going just fine after 3 years) -- 2 piece set for under $15 I think and from Men's wearhouse SD (no signs of obvious wear -- $5 a piece).

The term "real leather" doesn't mean much. It just means cows were involved at some point. Anything at this price point is a painted coating and usually made with two pieces sandwiched together with cardboard in the middle to give it some heft. Your $400 belt I'm sure is the real deal. But come on....let's face it. You HAVE to know you paid for the name brand....and still got ripped. I could understand a $100 high quality belt. But $400 is just stupid. Might as well been $1000 at that point. Same with purses. Yeah. I get it. There's a real difference in the $50 purse from the $300 purse. But you went and spent $2000.

And belts in general. Once you've used the ratcheting belts, you'll never go back. They work like a friggin champ and look better than a traditional belt. No belt holes and no creases around the location you always lock it in place (like a traditional belt).

How much a genuine leather belt actually cost? How can they price them so cheap when i spent $400+ on my husband's Ferragamo belt at Neiman Marcus? I know big chunk of money goes to marketing; but what the main difference is if they are both "genuine leather"?

This website will give you a good overview: http://www.saddlebackleather.com/...in-leather

Generally speaking, "genuine leather" is spray painted/refinished to have that leather look vs. the higher grades of leather like top grain or full grain. For $400 ferragamo, i would expect full grain...

It's included in the order- you get one of each color of the style you choose. So you can't choose two of the same color or two different styles per selection.

If anyone is interested in something between these $9 belts made of sandwiched cardboard, and the $200 designer belts, may I recommend this guy:

http://simpleleatherbelt.com/

$60 for a belt made of English bridle leather. I've bought 2, black and brown, and I feel like they might be the last belts I ever need to buy. They're tough as hell (they have to be, to hold back my flab) and look good with casual or business-casual outfits.

Thank you for introducing me to ratchet belts. Definitely going to try purchasing one next time I need a belt.
