These headphones pair nicely with the recent Amazon sales of the Schiit Magni 2 & Magni 2 Uber.. Great timing Smilie

Also, the DT-990 headphones have a more fun, V-shaped sound profile from what I've read. The DT-880s were also recently on sale at BuyDig, but are more neutral sounding.

Thanks for posting, OP!

I picked the DT-880's between the two. I had a pair of DT-990's for a bit, but the treble was just a little too much for me. The iFi amp is awesome.

These are fantastic but need an amp without question. The title should also mention these are the premium chrome special edition. Much sexier than the normal model.

The ifi is a very bright dac/amp so I think it would be an awful pairing with headphones that often nicknamed "treble cannons."

Are there any good DACs on sale that go of the magni sale?

Not me. I have a Micca Origen + dac/amp on my desktop that works just fine. My yamaha receiver also handles them very nicely.

They will and they're decent, but as with any high impedance headphones, noticeably better through an amp. May not need headphones like this in a normal pc setup, when hd598 can be had around $70.

I used Dt990s (250 ohm) all purpose for years and enjoyed them, but I started to notice that the high treble caused some listening fatigue with music so I bought HD650s and sorta wish I did it sooner. They're awesome.

not really Wink OP's are 600ohm cans and do require a proper amplification to shine ! I have 6 DT series cans in a different impedance values and I like that I can drive 32ohm (one of 'em is 990) w/my phone and still get a beyer sound ! but for anything I want really listen and enjoy the hi res or detailed bass (from old Pastorius to newer Bona or even Sylvain Luc (guitar - but he plays a lot in lower register!)) I would go 250 - 600Ohm ! 600Ohm is a more responsive headphone ! Peace

Ugh, apologies, I meant hd558. Hd598 at $70 might be too slick.
