Base price + $110 mandatory service fee + $150 for a visa = $859 if you fly from SFO, and on up to $1159 if you fly from ATL or DFW.

Is that really that good of a deal?

Be prepared to be insulted in English and Chinese if you don't buy anything at the shopping stops.

Hah. Jokes on them. I know Mandarin, so I'd be able to respond.

It used to be that these Chinese tour guides only get mad when Chinese tourist refuse to buy anything at these shopping stop. These days, they also insult and get made at American and Canadian tourist.

"Escorted" kills the deal. These are basically scams where you're ushered into stores to buy shit so the tour company can make a cut. Also, depending on how scummy the place is, you also don't get to choose meals...

It does say you're not required to purchase anything. How pushy are they (the tour people) about it?

They will NOT force you, or use force, to buy anything. However, they may cry or beg you with tears, especially when most of us says no. And the tears are real because those guides are usually only paid through the kickback of your purchase in the gift shop. Thus, if no one buy anything, they don't get paid. The tear is real and, thus, very compelling. Most of us end up buying something. Another way to force you buy, which is probably uncommon now, is to lock you up in the gift shop until the purchases are good enough, they can use excuses such as security to keep you there.

I don't blame the guides. But the company is just @$$
