Bought this at $300 and have no regrets. Took some effort to get it dialed in but it has worked like a champ ever sense.

If you do spring for this printer I recommend two mods that will make you life a lot better:

Replace the stock carriage plate with this thicker one [reprapchampion.com]. The supplied carriage plate is fairly thin and usually warped. You will have a bad time trying to level your print bed. This thicker carriage plate is flatter and easier to level your print bed with
This Z-axis mod [thingiverse.com] will stiffen the Z-axis tower to keep it square with the print bed

It costs $3200 less. Seems google would have told you that.

Seems like the V2 has a larger printing volume than the original but still slightly smaller than the Anet A8.
So this vs Anet A8 (with a MOSFET, of course)?

metal vs plastic, pretty much completely assembled vs diy, dealing with monopirce vs gearbest... I think it's worth it.

JPoel nailed the required upgrades. You do also need that MOSFET I believe.

Great printer! Budget $80 for upgrades, specifically a microswiss all-metal hotend.

How does this compare to a Ultimaker 3?

What would be better with full mods? Anet A8 or this one?

Which would come in cheaper all modded?

I think that I understand the answer already, but I have been watching this industry develop for years. I also paid close attention when the V1 showed up on SD. Is the v2, the best most economical printer out there now assuming I do all the recommended mods.

Anet A8 is mostly plastic, this is metal. If you're looking at costs after all mods just buy a prusa mk2, Your time is worth money too, but you won't learn as much about how the printer and print process work as you will hands on upgrading.

The rigid metal frame is really worth it. Also takes less than 10 minutes to assemble. Print quality is pretty good for the money and gets better after some upgrades and tweaks.
