Echo Plus connects to Alexa—a cloud-based voice service—to play music, make calls, set timers and alarms, ask questions, check traffic and weather, and more—instantly. With the built-in hub you can directly set up and control your smart home devices.
Alexa can control your compatible smart lights, thermostats, locks, garage doors, sprinklers, and more. Set up devices from Philips Hue, GE, Kwikset, and others without the need for a separate hub. Just ask Alexa to discover your connected devices.
Just ask for a song, artist, or genre from Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, and more. With multi-room music, you can play music on your Echo devices in different rooms. Echo Plus can also play audiobooks, radio stations, news briefs, and more.
Call or message anyone hands-free with your Echo device. Also, instantly connect to other Echo devices in your home using just your voice.
Improved speakers with Dolby processing deliver crisp vocals and extended bass to fill the room with immersive, 360° audio
With seven microphones, beamforming technology, and noise cancellation, Echo hears you from any direction—even while music is playing
Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new features and skills. Just ask Alexa to control your TV, request an Uber, order a pizza, and more.

Nice price for Amazon Prime users.

I read:
Simple setup works with a variety of ZigBee lights, locks, and plugs from leading brands such as Philips Hue, GE, Kwikset, and more.

So ZigBee only support?

Based on size and price, the Echo Plus seems like the real successor to the 1st gen Echo. The 2nd gen Echo that was released today is more like a new product that falls between the Dot and 1st Gen Echo/Echo Plus.

They're shrinking the regular echo and selling it for $99. The echo plus is the new successor to the Echo for $149.99

I went on the website and I can't figure out the difference between the echo and the echo plus other than the built in hub! Are there any other differences that I have missed? I did see that they are also releasing a new echo (that is a size in between the dot and the new plus) and they have a mini dot show (not the actual name). Any suggestions from others as if the new addition of a hub makes this worth the update? Thanks

Hope it has better sound quality than first gen Echo. I wasn't expecting much considering all it does for the price, but was hoping it sounded a little better

Probably worse. Plus has the same size woofer but a much smaller (.8" vs. 2.0") tweeter. Size isn't everything, but if you dislike the sound of the first gen Echo you should definitely wait for reviews of the Plus before diving in.

built-in hub and slightly bigger tweeter. Go to the page for it and scroll down and you'll see the details of all Echo devices. The new Echo may be smaller now?
