Staples has the same deal with coupon code 66104
Add the two items to the your shopping cart and the coupon code would automatically apply:
  1. Amazon Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD and Alexa Voice Remote: [staples.com]
  2. Amazon Echo Dot, White [staples.com], Amazon Echo Dot, Black [staples.com]

BestBuy.com has the same deal: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/amaz...7900050006

FireTV (Gen 3) Specs: https://developer.amazon.com/publ...ifications

The main differences are:

What really matters
Gen 3: Hardware accelerated up to 3840x2160p (4K) @ 60fps, 35 Mbps, Main 10 Profile Level 5.0, Color space 8-bit and 10-bit input with HDR10 support in rendering pipelines

Gen 2: Hardware accelerated up to 3840x2160p (4K) @ 30fps, 25 Mbps, Main 10 Profile Level 5.0, Color space 8-bit and 10-bit input but just 8-bit output

CPU
Gen 3: Quad core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU up to 1.5GHz
Gen 2: Quad Core (dual core ARM Cortex A72 up to 2 GHz, dual core ARM Cortex A53 up to 1.573 Ghz). 64-bit.

GPU
Gen 3: Mali-450 MP3
Gen 2: PowerVR Rogue GX6250

System on Chip
Gen 3: Amlogic S905Z
Gen 2: MediaTek 8173C

4K Refresh Rates
Gen 3: 3840 x 2160 (2160p / 4K) - 60Hz
Gen 2: 3840 x 2160 (2160p / 4K) - 30Hz

WiFi, Bluetooth, RAM and Storage remain the same on the Gen 3 (8 GB storage, 2 GB RAM)

What's missing on the Gen 3:
- NO Network LAN port. (Wifi is built-in. If you need Network port, there is an optional $15 Network adapter.)
- NO expandable memory slot
- NO USB port (credit: bootymaster)
- OpenGL Properties and Limits are half the limits of the Gen 2
-Miracast
------------------------

Conclusion: If you simply need full HDR10 support, then go with the FireTV Gen 3. Otherwise, the Gen 2 is a much better value.

This is a dongle style FTV and more like FTV Stick replacement if you want 4K/HDR. If you prefer 4K60p/HDR and want to upgrade your FTV then wait for 3rd generation cube FTV.

So please don't complain for missing LAN and USB.

-------------------------

Supposedly this is going to be the mid-range fire tv. The current stick will remain the budget option.

There's going to be a flagship Fire TV with built in echo buttons and speaker. https://www.theverge.com/circuitb...2017-alexa

If you have a relatively new TV (Mine is I think 3 years old) then you should be able to turn it on via HDMI.

Look for the CEC option in your TV menu. Make sure that's turned on and any CEC device (the Fire TV) will turn your TV on.

Amazon failed on this one again, remote needs a power button to turn on tv and needs volume control. Cant believe they put out the same remote without these basic features again.
I'd agree but so far my Samsung tv remote has controlled everything we have connected to it

I checked as well. When you pre order it gives you an option to buy a USB adapter for the Ethernet

Isn't this the replacement for the Fire stock? I'm thinking a full size version is coming.
