I have this card (had the gold before it) and got on in this deal the last time they had a 70K mile signup bonus. A few notes to help clear up the questions around this card (and the gold).

- There is indeed a $195 renewal fee due annually starting after your first year. Gold card is $95/yr.
- This card gives you a free companion ticket (read: coach ticket) to anywhere in the contiguous 48 upon your annual renewal. Think you have to use or lose it though in 1 year. The Gold card does not have this benefit, but you can buy a companion ticket for ~$100, but I've never tried to do that.
- 1st bag is checked free. Do note this benefit, among others I'll list below, are actually tied to the primary card holder. Meaning if you and your spouse get this card but the card is technically in your name, if your spouse goes to fly alone she will not be entitled to this benefit. Also, this benefit is technically for US travel only, but we've gotten it to work to the Caribbean.
- Priority boarding. Again this is tied to the primary card holder. As long as the family is travelling with the primary card holder and on the same itinerary then everyone enjoys this benefit, similar to the checked bag benefit above.
- This and the Gold card are totally different cards. For us that was a bummer because that meant another credit check to get the Platinum card even though we were already Gold card holders. My recommendation is choose wisely so you don't have buyer's remorse and end up going through the credit approval process twice. FWIW Amex did merge our accounts so we didn't lose our miles on the Gold account.

I fly out of Atlanta (Deltas HQ) so MQM miles/status here in this city is darn near useless. Everyone and their mother has platinum or diamond status with Delta here. Between these cards and business travelers MQM miles are pretty worthless. But I didn't get the card for MQMs. Just for checked bags alone (we are a family of 4), after just one trip the card has paid for itself (4 bags @ $25 each way). The miles and companion ticket pushes this over the top for a family. Just my .02.

Delta points redemption towards Gift Card ratio is pretty bad compared to others.
It has all major company gift cards and the ratio is
21,000 points for $100 Gift Card
51,000 points for $250 Gift Card
So 70,000 points should be worth around $340 Gift Card approx.

The annual fee of $195 is not waived for the first year. No companion ticket for the first year. Then you pay another $195 to get the companion tickets for the second year.

Thanks for posting this - I've been waiting for a 70k offer to appear again before I applied.

Does anyone know how many days Delta actually gives you to earn your spend (for example, SW says you get 3 months, but in reality they give you 105 days)? I'm trying to figure out if I can go ahead and apply now, but earn my bonus miles and MQMs in 2018.

Isnt the other Amex 'Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card' a better option giving 60,000 miles than this Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card giving 70,000 which has $195 annual fees where as the other card has $0 annual fees for first year and $95 from next year.
If you scroll down on the link above at the end of that page there is another offer for 'Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card' that seems like a much better offer.

It depends on what you'd use the card for. The Platinum card has a free companion airfare award each year, which is worth the annual fee for plenty of folks.

No, you don't get it until you renew your card at the 1-year mark.
