The CPU is 8th gen CPU. It has 4K screen with large HDD plus SSD; 16GB RAM... so I think it's a good deal.

Why thumb down? Can you show a better deal somewhere else? Or at least let people know why are you giving thumb down!

I didn't give a thumbs down, but Costco did recently have the prior CPU version of this exact same laptop, except it had a 1TB + 512GB SSD, for the same price of $999 (had 4K, everything else, etc).

You are right, Costco has the older CPU version for the same price with a little larger SSD. However, this is a new gen CPU which made a huge difference. It's 4 cores 8 thread unlike the older CPU which only dual core and 4 threads...

Yeah, and this version has the faster version that hits 4 ghz too. Decent deal but not really sure why it still has a 940mx. A m150 would make much more sense with the newer cpu; it uses the same amount of power and is about 30-40% faster.

What's the point of having 4k res in a 15" screen?

I have heard that same argument every time. The same goes with TV, when the first 720P came out, people was saying "what the point of having 720P…" then the 1080P came, again they said "what the point of having 1080P…" and now "what the point of having 4K…"

The point is better image quality, and display. And is especially useful when editing, and doing graphic work.

If you don't want it, or need it, fine. Costco sells other versions of this laptop that don't have it.

Does this have the same issues the Lenovo 720 4k panel has? The 720 4k panel is plagued with issues and if this is the same panel I'd avoid it.

Google Lenovo 720 4k issues

Good question. I don't know. I hope not. At least Costco has a very good return policy.

Be careful if it does. The 4k panel issues can happen spontaneously days, weeks, months later on (well outside of any return options)... I'd be pissed if I splurged on a 4k panel laptop and had the screen develop issues months after purchase and be left out to dry by Lenovo.

Good points and info here. I, personally, have been looking at this particular model for a while. Money is less of an object for my purposes, but one of the biggest selling points for me is that I'll have 90 days to decide whether I should keep this or go to the premium Thinkpad Yoga (I really like the idea of getting an OLED with that particular flagship..)

In the meantime, I will be testing this out. As for the 4K screen comment, I am a semi-professional/hobby photographer and having a good screen is a must. We shall see how accurate the colors are (and having true blacks)--which is an entirely different battle for photographers.

Lenovo hinge setups on their 2 in 1's is terrible. We fix a lot of them.

Costco return on laptops is only 90 days btw.

FWIW I tried the yoga (both the 720 and 910) and found the hp Spectre to be a superior choice, especially for the display quality.
